Vassallo Builders Ltd is seeking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join its technical team. The selected candidate will play a key role in tendering, cost control, contractual administration, and financial management of construction projects across the Group.

Key Responsibilities

Tendering & Estimating

· Assist the Contracts Manager in the appraisal of tenders and contracts

· Prepare cost estimates and recommend appropriate profit margins

· Price, prepare, and present tenders deemed feasible

Budgeting & Project Programming

· Monitor costs on ongoing projects

· Support project turnover forecasting

· Assist with programming and scheduling of works

Contractual Administration

· Manage contractual correspondence and claims, both internal and external

· Prepare subcontractor and piecework contracts in liaison with the Contracts Manager

· Identify potential site issues that may impact project performance

Project Valuations & Applications

· Collect and collate data from subsidiaries, internal departments, and subcontractors

· Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment to clients

· Issue monthly piecework and subcontractor certificates

· Prepare internal project valuations for monthly management reporting

· Liaise continuously with the Accounts Department on valuations and applications

Record Keeping

· Coordinate with Project Managers and Site Foremen to collect day work sheets, vouchers, and site diaries

· Assist in preparing confirmations of verbal instructions and requests for information (RFIs)

Cost Control

· Assist in the preparation of project budgets

· Review monthly cost reports against budgets and valuations

· Highlight cost deviations to the Project Manager and Commercial Manager

· Prepare cost provisions and variation provisions for monthly commercial meetings

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Works Foreman to join our construction team. The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising site operations, managing resources, and ensuring that works are carried out efficiently, safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Reporting Line

The Civil Works Foreman will report directly to the Works Manager and will be responsible for all site operatives and subcontractors working on projects under their control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise company employees and subcontractors on site
  • Motivate, control, and direct workers to maximise performance and productivity
  • Ensure compliance with employment, building, and health & safety regulations
  • Ensure a safe, organised, and compliant working environment at all times
  • Implement company health and safety policies and follow recommendations issued by the Health & Safety Manager
  • Report accidents, near misses, and incidents promptly and complete all required documentation
  • Plan, schedule, and requisition materials in a timely and cost-effective manner

  • Monitor site costs against bills of quantities
  • Minimise wastage and ensure workers are engaged in productive work
  • Supervise ongoing works to ensure high-quality workmanship and site cleanliness

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Civil Works Foreman or similar supervisory role in construction
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and site operations
  • Good understanding of health & safety legislation and building regulations
  • Ability to manage labour, materials, tools, and equipment efficiently
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • The Steel Fixer ensures that the correct thickness and sizes of steel are selected according to the work programme prepared by his supervisor.
  • He ensures that the steel is bent using the bending machines according to the foreman’s instructions.

  • He ensures that the steel material is transported to the work site.
